Is The CeraVe Vitamin C Eye Cream Worth It?
Today, I am going to be talking about a budget skincare product: The CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C Eye Cream!
If you’re looking for an under-eye product to target dark circles, fine lines, wrinkles, or even puffy eyes, and you’ve come across this one wondering if it’s worth it, let me break it down for you.

What The CeraVe Eye Cream Targets
This eye cream is designed to help with:
- Dark under-eye circles
- Signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles
- Crepey under-eye texture
- Puffiness
It’s simple, gentle, and designed for daily use, even if you have sensitive skin.
Key Ingredient: Pure Vitamin C
The standout feature of this product is that it contains pure Vitamin C, specifically L-ascorbic acid, the only active form of Vitamin C available in skincare.
Why That Matters:
- Most eye creams on the market use derivatives of Vitamin C.
- If you want the purest and most effective form that actually contains L-ascorbic acid, this is the product for you.
- L-ascorbic acid is rare to find in under-eye creams due to stability issues and potential irritation, but when formulated well, it works faster and more effectively.
- It has great supporting ingredients like: Ceramides (help strengthen the skin barrier), Hyaluronic acid (pulls in moisture and smooths texture), and Caffeine (reduce puffiness and brightens under-eyes)
Unique Feature: Shows the Vitamin C Concentration
This product is very transparent, it lists the exact concentration of L-ascorbic acid (which is 5%). Most brands and products do not tell us this, which as a consumer makes it harder for us to select products for our specific skin type and skin concerns (or just to know what we’re using in general).
That’s a great percentage for the sensitive under-eye area:
- Not too low to be ineffective
- Not too high to cause irritation
In my opinion, 5% is the sweet spot. You could maybe tolerate up to 10%, but I wouldn’t go beyond that for this area.
Companion Product: 10% Vitamin C Face Serum
The eye cream is part of a line that also includes a face serum, which came out years ago:
- CeraVe Vitamin C Face Serum → 10% L-ascorbic acid
- Eye Cream version → 5% L-ascorbic acid
Packaging & Stability
I mentioned that L-ascorbic acid can be unstable, so we really want to pay attention to how it is packaged. I love this packaging because it is opaque, which protects the product against light. It is also airtight, which protects against air breaking down the product. Both the eye cream and the face serum have similar packaging!
Notable Ingredients
Besides Vitamin C, this formula also contains:
- Ceramides: Help reinforce your skin barrier, especially great for sensitive under-eye skin
- Hyaluronic Acid: Draws moisture into the skin to plump and hydrate
- Caffeine: Helps reduce the look of dark circles and puffiness
Overall, this product is centered around Vitamin C and with these amazing supporting ingredients (but no boosters like tranexamic acid). With this very simple formula, you have a low chance of irritating your skin!
Other Features:
- Slightly tinted, vitamin-y hue
- Thicker consistency than the face serum, perfect for under the eyes
How to Apply CeraVe Vitamin C Eye Cream:
- Dab a small amount under your eyes
- Gently tap it in with your finger, don’t tug or rub
- Optional: Apply a bit to the brow bone as well
- Use once daily, morning or night it’s up to you!
Morning vs. Night Use
Depending on your routine and your skincare goals, both are fine! Here’s what I prefer:
- Nighttime: I have more time for my skincare routine and love ending the day with extra hydration.
- Daytime: Wear a great sunscreen to create extra protection (here is a sunscreen I recommend and have paired with this many times!)
Who Should Use the CeraVe Eye Cream?
CeraVe states this is for all skin types, and I agree! Most of their products are for all skin types, which I love about them. Even sensitive skin can likely tolerate this, thanks to the gentle formulation.
That said, always patch test first:
- Apply a small amount on your skin
- Wait 24 hours to make sure it agrees with you
- If all’s good, start using it as directed!
How to Layer it in Your Routine
Here’s my preferred nighttime routine:
- Cleanse (I’ve been loving this one!)
- Apply Eye Cream (this product!)
- Face Treatment (Vitamin C serum, peptide serum, or retinoid like my retinaldehyde)
- Moisturizer (try this one!)
- Lip balm (my go-to)
You can follow the same steps in the morning, just don’t forget the sunscreen!!
Is CeraVe Eye Cream Worth It?
~$25
Let’s talk about price! Is the CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C Eye Cream worth it? This is ~$25, which makes this in the range of drugstore affordable skincare products and very well-priced considering:
- It contains pure L-ascorbic acid (rare in budget products)
- Many similar products cost $50 or more and use weaker vitamin C derivatives
La Roche-Posay sells a 5% L-ascorbic acid eye cream for $50. The CeraVe one has the same concentration for half the price. So yes, this is a fantastic value!
Final Thoughts
This (not sponsored) review was long overdue… but I’m so glad to finally share it!
Here’s why I give this product a 10/10:
- Contains the most effective form of Vitamin C
- Clearly states concentration
- Comes in ideal packaging
- Includes great supporting ingredients
- Affordable and well-formulated
- Safe for all skin types
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly Vitamin C eye cream, this is the one. Try it out and let me know what you think!
